Three: Leading Stoker R. Beare, Royal Navy

1914-15 Star
(K. 1588 Sto. 1, R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (K. 1588 Act. L. Sto., R.N.), about very fine (3) £30-40

Richard Beare was born at Redruth, Cornwall in May 1883 and originally entered the Royal Navy in October 1903. Sometime thereafter he was discharged, but in November 1908 he rejoined as Stoker 1st Class and was serving in the cruiser H.M.S. Defence on the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914. He remained similarly employed until coming ashore to Vivid in March 1916, and in the following month he joined the ship’s company of the destroyer Albatross. Beare’s next appointment, in October 1917, was to the Lowestoft base Halcyon, where he joined another destroyer. He was finally discharged as a Leading Stoker to the R.F.R. in December 1925.
