Approximately 19 Imperial Yeomanry Long Service and Good Conduct Medals awarded to the Denbighshire Hussars.

John Edward Nicholls was born in Everton, Liverpool, and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Wrexham on 12 January 1900, having previously served in the 1st Volunteer Battalion, Liverpool Regiment, a fine art dealer by profession. He served with the 29th (Denbighshire) Company, 9th Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 9 February 1900 to 28 January 1901 (entitled to a Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, and South Africa 1901), and was awarded his Imperial Yeomanry Long Service Medal per Army Order 24 of February 1906.
