Douglas Frederick Kennard was commissioned Temporary Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps on 21 October 1914 and was posted for service to the 6th (Swansea) Territorial Battalion, Welsh Regiment. He served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 29 October 1914, and was promoted temporary Captain on 24 May 1916.
