Francis G. Bacon was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on 4 October 1892 and having emigrated to Canada attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force at Valcartier on 20 September 1914. He served with the 15th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment) during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action at St. Jean on 29 April 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
