George Leonard Armstrong served in the ranks of the Royal Air Force prior to being commissioned Pilot Officer in the Equipment Branch in April 1943. He advanced to Flight Lieutenant in October 1947, and to Squadron Leader in July 1952. Armstrong retired in September 1967.
