William James Edwards was born in Liverpool and attested there for the Scots Guards on 1 December 1915, having previously served for four years with the 2nd Liverpool Volunteer Artillery. He was mobilised for active service on 30 September 1916, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 30 July 1917, aged 31. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
