Frederick Albert Sainsbury was born at Lewisham, and attested for the 21st Battalion, London Regiment (First Surrey Rifles) at Camberwell, London. He served with them during the Great War on the Western Front, and was awarded the Military Medal in 1918, but was killed in action during the German Spring Offensive on 23 March 1918, only 10 days after the award of his M.M. had appeared in the London Gazette. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
