Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Transvaal, Laing’s Nek (1676 Pte. A. Black. Durham Lt. Infy.) initial officially corrected, good very fine £60-£80

Andrew Black was born in Southwick, co. Durham, in 1866 and attested for the Durham Light Infantry at Newcastle-on-Tyne on 10 December 1884. He served with them in India from 3 December 1885 to 2 November 1892, before transferring to the Reserve on 12 November 1892. Recalled to the Colours on 15 December 1899, he served in South Africa during the Boer War from 27 March 1900 to 21 November 1901 (also entitled to South Africa 1901 clasp). He was discharged on 9 December 1901, after 17 years’ service.
