Zoological Society of London Prize Medal, 1826, in silver, by B. Wyon after T. Landseer, exotic birds, rev. African and Asian animals beneath tree, edge engraved (H.H. Sayid Burghash bin Said, Sultan of Zanzibar, 1875), 77mm (BHM 1272; E 1187). Extremely fine and toned, very rare; in original case of issue (£1,500-2,000)

The design of the medal was not approved until 1837, and the first award made in 1847. It was given in gold for special services, in silver for presentation purposes and in bronze to zoo keepers. Sayid Burghash bin Said, Sultan of Zanzibar 1870-88.
