John Pavey was born at Weybridge, Surrey, on 28 November 1845, and joined the Metropolitan Police on 5 February 1866, being posted to ‘S’ (Hampstead) Division. A keen cricketer, he was part of the Metropolitan Police XI and played several times at Lord’s. He resigned to pension in 1892.
