Khedive’s Star 1882, the reverse Regimentally impressed ‘1977 J. E. 1st. Bn. The R.S. Regt.’, nearly very fine £80-£120

James Edwards was born in Buntingford, Hertfordshire, in 1859 and attested for the General Service Infantry on 14 January 1881. Posted to the Royal Sussex Regiment, he served with the 1st Battalion in Egypt and the Sudan from 9 September 1882 to 11 September 1885, and was present at the Battle of Abu Klea, 17 January 1885 (entitled to an Egypt and Sudan Medal with clasps The Nile 1884-95 and Abu Klea). He transferred to the Army Reserve on 1 March 1886, and was discharged on 13 January 1893, after 12 years’ service.
