Malcolm Murray entered the Royal Navy as a Naval Cadet on 15 May 1900, and was appointed Midshipman on 15 June 1900. He was commissioned Sub-Lieutenant on 15 August 1903, and was promoted Lieutenant on 31 December 1905, and Commander on 30 June 1918.
