Hammer Price:

Provincial, Newark Bank, Five Shillings, 1 January 1808, no.517, for Pocklington & Co, arms at upper centre (Grant 1998D). Bankruptcy stamp on back, two pinholes, otherwise good very fine, rare (£500-600)

The note promises to ‘pay the bearer of this & three similar cheques One Pound in a Bank of England Note’. It is believed that Newark is the only bank to have issued such a low denomination note at this period
