A Great War ‘Battle of Neuve Chapelle’ D.C.M. group of three to Sergeant J. Porter, Seaforth Highlanders who was later killed in action in the Persian Gulf

Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (10068 Sjt., 1/Sea. Hdrs.); British War and Victory Medals (10068 Sjt., Sea. Highrs.); together with an Army Temperance Association silver medal, nearly extremely fine (3) £300-400

D.C.M. London Gazette 3 June 1915 ‘For gallant conduct and resource at Neuve Chapelle on 10 March 1915 when under heavy fire he succeeded in taking a portion of his platoon well in rear of the German trenches in order to bring more effective fire on the enemy.’

Sergeant James Porter was born in Dundee, Forfarshire and enlisted in Edinburgh. He was killed in action whilst serving with the 1st battalion, Seaforth Highlanders in the Persian Gulf 7 January 1916. Porter was also entitled to the 1914 Star with clasp.
