Ordinary Seaman Gerald Gorier Kidd drowned 14 December 1940 whilst serving aboard the Free French Torpedo Boat ‘Branlebas’. This French boat was one of the units of the French Navy which adhered to General de Gaulle’s Free French force after the capitulation in June 1940. The vessel was manned by a mixed French and British crew and came under the orders of the British Navy. On 14 December 1940 she was lost when in the English Channel through stress of weather.
