Australia, Adelaide Jubilee International Exhibition, 1887, a copper medal by E.A. Altmann for Pinches, crowned bust of Victoria left, rev. wreath, first order of merit, 76mm (Carlisle 1887/5); England, Great Exhibition, 1851, Services medal, in bronze, by W. Wyon, bust of Prince Albert left, rev. for services, edge named (P.B. Borcherds), 48mm (Allen 50; BHM 2465; E 1461); other miscellaneous base metal medals (2) [4]. First two very fine but obverse of Adelaide medal with light scratches in obverse field, others in varied state; first in fitted case (£70-100)

Petrus Borchardus Borcherds (1812-80) was the civil commissioner of the Cape division and resident magistrate for Cape Town and district. He lived at Riversdal and wrote an interesting autobiography in 1861
