An early 20th century white metal souvenir notebook and pencil from the ocean liner Kaiserin Auguste Victoria of the Hamburg Amerika line, circa 1905/6, the front embossed with an image of the ocean liner, with hinged cover, enclosing paper notebook, with pencil slide, the reverse stamped “ translating as: “Memory of my trip with the Kaiserin Auguste Victoria”, length 7.6cm. £40-£60

At the time of her launching, 24th August 1905, the S/S Kaiserin Auguste Victoria was the largest ship in the world, her route being Hamburg-Dover-Cherbourg-New York.
During World War One she was laid up at Hamburg, and in March 1919 was surrendered to Britain and chartered to the US Shipping Board for repatriating troops from Europe. In 1921 she was sold to Canadian Pacific and made her last voyage from Southampton to Cherbourg and Quebec on 11th October 1930. Later that year she was sold to shipbreakers at Blyth.
