Volunteer Force Long Service Medal, V.R. (No.88 - Corpl - C. Brampton 2nd V.B. Wilts- Regt.) engraved naming, good very fine £100-£140

Charles Brampton was born at Hyson Green, Nottingham, on 5 February 1828, and was a famous Nottinghamshire cricketer in the 1850s and 60s, playing First Class cricket at Trent Bridge for 13 seasons, as well as representing the Players against the Gentlemen at Lord’s in 1859; and appearing for both the Marylebone Cricket Club and various All England XIs. In 1959 he was appointed the cricket professional at Marlborough College, and remained in active service there for more than twenty years; he also served with the Wiltshire Volunteers, and was awarded the Long Service Medal. He died in Marlborough on 12 June 1895.
