Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Navarino (James A. Hodgskin.) toned, good very fine £1,200-£1,600
James Archibald Hodgskin entered the Royal Navy on 3 August 1827, as an Able Seaman in H.M.S. Albion, 74 guns, and served in this vessel at the Battle of Navarino, 20 October 1827. The following March he joined H.M.S. Chanticleer, as a First Class Volunteer and Midshipman, in which ship he served on a scientific mission to the Pacific Ocean. He was advanced Mate in 1834, and Lieutenant on 23 November 1841. He retired with the rank of Commander, and died at Woolston, Southampton, on 9 April 1878.
