Battle of Jutland Interest.
A framed and glazed display featuring a souvenir of H.M.S.
Colossus, being the tear-off linen disc of the first shell fired from the starboard gun of 'Q' turret, the first gun of that turret to be fired at Jutland. The disc shows a red cross, officially stamped, '1/12 IN. B.L./76LB/12OZ.', also hand marked '1299'. Complete with printed linen 'Tear Off' tab. Also included a 'Grand Fleet' Christmas card with hand written note, 'Gunroom Card Christmas 1916'. Appended below are handwritten details concerning the linen disc, '1299' indicates the 'Lot' of cordite to which the charge belonged. The disc was presented to Midshipman M. W. B. Hervey RN by the turret Gunners Mate upon the ship's return to Scapa Flow, good condition £300-£400
