Thomas William Barrett was born in Stonehouse, Devon, on 8 May 1881 and entered naval service as a Boy 2 Class in May 1898. He received his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in May 1914, and his medals for service in the Great War were issued to H.M.S. Tamar. He was shore pensioned on 8 July 1921.
