1914 Star, with clasp (Lieut: W. Holdsworth. 18/Hrs.); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Lt. Col. W. Holdsworth.) naming inverted on V.M. but aligns perfectly with that on the B.W.M.; 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Pacific Star; Italy Star; War Medal 1939-45; Romania, Kingdom, Order of the Crown, 4th Class breast badge with swords, silver and enamels, this lacking reverse centre and enamels chipped on obverse centre, otherwise nearly very fine or better (9) £300-£400

Walter Holdsworth proceeded on service with the regiment to France on 15 August 1914, and was wounded on 20 October 1914. He was promoted to Captain on 8 April 1915, having recovered from his wounds and returned to France, only to be wounded again on 24 April 1916. He was promoted to Temporary Major on 26 May 1918, and was wounded for a third time on 28 August 1918. He was appointed to the temporary command of the regiment on 14 October 1918. Major Holdsworth assumed command of the 18th Hussars on 17 September 1922, and was its senior office on amalgamation with the 13th Hussars in November 1922, becoming 13th/18th Hussars. As a retired officer he was re-employed on 30 May 1941, and was employed on Troop ships during the Second War. Sold with copied research and small portrait photograph.
