Edwin Herbert Trett was born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, on 19 May 1885 and joined the Royal Navy for the duration of hostilities on 16 December 1915. He served as an Acting Engine Room Artificer 4th Class in H.M.S. Geranium from 10 March 1916 to 24 October 1918, and was shore demobilised on 22 February 1919.

Herbert Edwin Trett, son of the above, was born in Devonport on 27 November 1919, and served as a Petty Officer Diver with the Royal Navy during the Second World War and in the immediate post-War years.
