Edward Colleypriest was born in Newport, Isle of Wight, in 1864 and attested there for the Hampshire Regiment on 2 June 1883. He served with both the 2nd and 1st Battalions in India and Burma throughout the third Anglo-Burmese War, was advanced Sergeant, and was discharged on 17 October 1902, after 19 years and 138 days’ service.
