William Henry Thomas was born in Barking, Essex, on 9 June 1869 and entered naval service on 24 January 1885 as a Boy 2nd Class in H.M.S. St Vincent. Promoted Able Seaman on 1 September 1889, he served as such in the Royal Yacht Osborne from 24 March 1898 to 6 May 1908 and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. on 18 June 1907. He spent the Great War in H.M.S. Dolphin and died on 14 April 1919 at Haslar Naval Hospital.
