Walter Humphrey was born in Northampton in 1881, and attested for the Northamptonshire Regiment (Territorial Force). Serving as a Drummer, he was awarded his Territorial Force Efficiency Medal per Army Order 205 of July 1912. He served with the 1st/4th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 29 July 1915, and was disembodied on 6 August 1919.
