Alois Weishut, 1912, a uniface bronze plaque by H. Schæfer, three-quarter length study of Weishut seated left, holding a cigarette, 80 x 75mm (BDM VIII, 190; cf. DNW 38, 666; cf. Baldwin 35, 2304); other portrait pieces and plaques (6) [7]. Very fine or better (£70-100)

Hans Schæfer, sculptor and medallist from Sternberg, Moravia, worked in Vienna until emigrating to the USA in 1919, where he settled in Chicago. Schæfer’s work drew praise from Forrer, who said that he succeeded in “giving life-like portraits, which at the same time show a delicacy of manipulation and surety of delineation which prove that the artist possesses a true understanding of his subject”
