Henry I (1100-1135), Round Halfpenny, Winchester, Godwine, facing uncrowned bust with hair composed of eight stylised ringlets, henric rex, rev. godpine on pi :, cross potent with group of four pellets in each angle, 0.60g/6h (Winchester Mint –; Allen, BNJ 2012 and BNJ 2016, –; N 872; S 1277). Officially snicked in edge, about very fine and toned, extremely rare £3,000-£4,000

Provenance: Found in Bedfordshire, September 2018 (EMC 2018.040).

Nineteen specimens of these round halfpence are now recorded, mostly from different mint and moneyer combinations. EMC lists four other specimens from Winchester, one each by the moneyers Ælfwine and Godwine and two by Wigmund. A probable fifth specimen by the moneyer Godwine does not have a clear mint-signature and does not appear to be from the same dies as the current coin
