Corps of Royal Engineers, an extremely scarce Regimental Quarter-Master Sergeant’s Victorian five button single breasted two-pocket scarlet frock, low rounded collar and pointed cuffs of superfine navy cloth, the collar and epaulette straps embellished with quarter inch gold orris cord, similar decoration with Austrian knot finials to the cuffs, the lower right arm bears the insignia as laid down in 1881, a four stripe inverted gold lace chevron, above this a large bullion grenade and over this an eight pointed bullion star, the low quality gilt buttons with crowned unit title and VR cypher, the majority by Smith & Wright Birmingham, high quality scarlet cotton lining, c1881-1902,excellent overall condition £100-150
