Gordon Highlanders Company Championship Medal, 1 clasp, 1913, obverse: regimental emblem; reverse: ‘Won by C. Company' (No.10299, Pte. J. Wallace), 35mm., silver, faintly hallmarked, with ribbon, minor edge bruising, very fine £40-60

James Wallace was born in Coatbridge, Lanarckshire, a miner by trade, he enlisted into the Gordon Highlanders from the 2rd Volunteer Battalion of the Scottish Rifles on 30 January 1907. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Gordon Highlanders, he entered the France / Flanders theatre of war in 1914 and was killed in action, France / Flanders, 11 March 1915. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. Sold with copied service papers.
