Metropolitan Police Special Constabulary Medal 1914, reverse inscribed, ‘S/C 44 Sir H. George Smallman, 10th Aug. 1914, P. Division, Beckenham, 25 July 1917’, bronze open-work badge, nearly extremely fine £25-35

Sir Henry George Smallman was born in 1854 and educated at Thanet College, Margate, Kent. He was articled to Messrs. Nash and Field, Solicitors, London and admitted as a solicitor in 1879. He retired in 1893. He entered the Corporation of London as representative of the ward of Cheap in 1888 and was Alderman and J.P. for the City of London 1898-1909 and Sheriff of the City of London 1905-06. Smallman was created a Knight in 1906. During the Great War he served as a Special Constable. He died in 1923.
