‘.....Mr W. Webster, one of the pier employees, who on Wednesday, 28th July last, on his weekly rest day, whilst fully dressed rescued three persons from drowning at Canvey, i.e. a father, son and daughter, and in addition applied artificial respiration to the father whom he brought ashore last with great difficulty....’ Taken from the minutes of the Southend Pier Committee and Council, 9 September 1926-21 December 1926.
