D.S.M. London Gazette 20 January 1942: ‘Petty Officer Kenneth Charles Vearncombe. For coolness, skill and devotion to duty while serving in the Mediterranean.’
According to Seedie’s Roll Petty Officer Vearncombe was serving aboard the anti-submarine whaler Kos XXI ( renamed Whippet in September 1941) which was bombed and sunk by enemy aircraft in the Mediterranean on 4 October 1941.
