Frank Richard Gould, who was born in 1885, was a Carpenter by trade but had seen service in the ranks of the 3rd Hampshire Volunteers for three years prior to the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914. Enlisting in the Royal Flying Corps in early June 1915, he arrived in France later that month and served there until returning to the U.K. in January 1917 as a newly promoted Sergeant. By the War’s end he was serving in No. 34 Wing, and, as noted on his service record, he was ‘Mentioned for special services’ on 22 January 1919. Gould was finally discharged in April 1920.
