Three: Captain J. P. Balson, Royal Berkshire Regiment, late British South Africa Police

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902
, 2 clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (1408 Tpr., B.S.A. Police); British War and Victory Medals (Capt.), mounted as worn, the first largely officially corrected, generally good very fine (3) £80-120

Joseph Percy Balson’s service with the British South Africa Police in the Boer War was rewarded with the above described Medal and clasps, although it would seem as a re-issue in February 1908 (WO 100/238 refers). The advent of hostilities in August 1914 would appear to have witnessed him gaining a commission as Adjutant of the Royal Defence Corps (T.F.), and advancement to Captain in May 1916. Balson subsequently entered the French theatre of war in July 1917, where he served in the 4th Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment.
