Four: Private William Goble, 3rd Light Dragoons

Cabul 1842 (No. 1165 William Goble, 3d K.O.L.D.) fitted with replacement silver clip and bar suspension; Sutlej 1845-46, for Sobraon 1846 (Hy. Goble, 3rd Lt. Dragns.); Punjab 1848-49, 1 clasp, Goojerat (W. Goble, 3rd Lt. Dragns.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (1165 Wm. Goble, 3rd Dragns.) contact marks and edge bruising, otherwise about nearly very fine (4) £2000-2500

Second medal named Henry Goble, as he is named on the medal roll itself.

William Goble was born in the Parish of St Mary’s, Northgate, Canterbury, and attested for the 3rd Light Dragoons at Maidstone, Kent, on 21 March 1839. He served in the East Indies from 25 November 1840 to 3 February 1853, served in the campaign in Afghanistan in 1842, was present at the battle of Sobraon, 10 February 1846, with the army of the Sutlej, and at the battle of Goojerat, 21 February 1849. He was discharged to out pension on 13 April 1863, his having completed 24 years service, being then in possession of ‘three medals and two clasps for service in the field and Good Conduct Medal with Gratuity and five good conduct Badges with pay.’

William Goble was one of just 20 men of the regiment to receive the Sutlej medal with the Sobraon reverse.
