John Barbour was born in Kirkcudbright and enlisted at Castle Douglas. Serving with the 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders, he entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 12 October 1914. He was killed in action in Salonika on 7 January 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Doiran Memorial.
