John McGrath was born in Holborn, Middlesex and residing in Islington, Middlesex, he enlisted at Guildford, Surrey. Serving with the 2nd Battalion The Queen’s Regiment, he entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 4 October 1914. He was killed in action on 11 March 1915. He was buried in the Royal Irish Rifles Graveyard at Laventie.
