S.A.A.F. Commendation 26 October 1943.

Recommendation for M.B.E. reads: ‘This officer fills the appointment of Staff Officer, Personnel, to the Director of Air Personnel and Organisation. He has previously been employed as Senior Personnel Staff Officer at Training H.Q. where he displayed initiative and energy in the discharge of his duties far above the ordinary. He was largely responsible for the initial organisation and formation of the Air Records Office where again he displayed zeal and initiative in the performance of his duties. He is a member of the U.D.F. Artisan Board, and was largely responsible for the preparation of the U.D.F. Artisan Regulations. His work on the U.D.F. Artisan Board has formed the subject of a special commendation by the Chairman of the Artisan Board for his assistance during the deliberations of the Board, and particularly in the compilation of the Regulations. During the whole of the period of this Officer’s service with the S.A.A.F., which dates back to the 21st May 1940, he has shown a devotion to duty all the more remarkable because of the fact that he has constantly fought against ill health, and has on innumerable occasions discharged his duties with total disregard to his own personal welfare. His outstanding efforts in all directions are worthy of recognition.’

Entitled to the M.B.E.; Italy Star; War Medal; Africa Service Medal; King’s Commendation; Greek Order of George I Officer’s badge. Major Hyman Starfield died of natural causes on 26 August 1945. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
