1914-15 Star (12286 L.Cpl V. H. Northrop. Suff. R.); British War and Victory Medals (12286 Cpl. V. H. Northrop. Suff. R.); Defence Medal (A.D. Comdt. Valentine H. Northrop) privately engraved; Coronation 1953 (A.D. Comdt. Valentine H. Northrop) privately engraved; Special Constabulary Long Service Medal, G.VI.R., 2nd issue, with 3 additional Long Service Bars, dated 1937, 1945, and 1954, these loose (D.S.C.C. Valentine H. Northrop) mounted as worn, generally very fine or better (6) £100-£140

Valentine Harry Northrop was born in Hauxton, Cambridgeshire in 1894. On the outbreak of the Great War, he enlisted into the 7th Service Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, and served during the Great War on the Western Front from 30 May 1915. He was commissioned into the 4th Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment in February 1918, and was subsequently attached to the Royal Air Force in a training role from June 1918 until March 1919, before returning to the Northamptonshire Regiment. Post War he moved to South Devon and joined the local Special Constabulary, becoming a Deputy Special Constabulary Commander, and by 1953 was an Assistant Divisional Commandant. He died in Budleigh Salterton in 1991, aged 96.
