Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (J. G. Williams, St., H.M.S. Aurora.) impressed naming, edge nicks, traces of lacquer, good very fine £70-£90

Joseph George Williams was born at Torpoint, Cornwall, on 30 November 1865, and joined the Royal Navy at a Stoker 2nd Class in H.M.S. Indus on 29 January 1885. He was advanced Stoker on 1 May 1886, and joined H.M.S. Aurora on 16 February 1899, being awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in July 1900. He served in Aurora during the Third China War (entitled to a no clasp medal), and was promoted Leading Stoker in the same ship on 3 April 1902. He died in R.N. Hospital Plymouth from nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys) on 2 March 1904.
