Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Edwin Vosper. Lg. Stoker H.M.S. Phœnix) impressed naming, edge nicks, very fine £80-£120

Edwin Vosper was born at St. Dominick, Cornwall, on 4 October 1848 and joined the Royal Navy on 24 January 1867. He was advanced Leading Stoker on 1 January 1877, and joined H.M.S. Phœnix on 20 April 1880, being awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 23 March 1882. He was still borne on her books when she was wrecked on Prince Edward Island on 12 September 1882, and given that he was not drafted to H.M.S. Indus until 13 December of that year it is likely that he was aboard at the time of the wrecking, and remained nominally in Phœnix despite having returned to the U.K. in another ship. He was shore pensioned on 10 March 1887.
