Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., wide suspension (Burton Moore. Quarr. Mastr. H.M.S. Plumper. 21 Yrs.) engraved naming, minor edge bruising, good very fine £500-£700

Burton Moore was born in Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire, in c.1810, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in 1827. He served in H.M.S. Wolf from 3 March 1827 to 29 March 1830; H.M.S. Rainbow from 4 July 1830 to 29 May 1838; H.M.S. Orestes from 13 August 1838 to 12 November 1841, being advanced Quartermaster on 7 October 1841; H.M.S. Rapid from 22 December 1841 to 17 July 1845; H.M.S. Torch from 11 June 1846 to 19 October 1848; and H.M.S. Plumper from 3 May 1849 to 6 June 1853. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 4 January 1853, and subsequently served as Captain of the Main Top in H.M.S. Illustrious from 23 January 1854 to 31 December 1858, and finally in the Officers’ Training Ship H.M.S. Britannia from 1 January 1859 to 27 August 1860. He was finally pensioned on 15 September 1860.
