Four: Sergeant B. V. Murphy, Royal Military Police

Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Efficiency Medal, E.II.R., 2nd issue, Territorial, with Second Award Bar (22535565 Sgt. B. Murphy. RMP.); Efficiency Medal, E.II.R., 2nd issue, T. & A.V.R., with Second and Third Award Bars (22535565 Pte. B. Murphy. OTC.) mounted court-style as worn, minor contact marks, nearly extremely fine and probably a unique combination of awards (4) £300-£400

Bernard Vincent ‘Spud’ Murphy was born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, on 2 March 1928, and having joined the Army under-age, gained the Defence and War Medals for his service during the Second World War. He joined the Royal Military Police (Territorial Army) on 27 August 1950, and served as a Non-Regular Permanent Staff Instructor for 24 years, being awarded his Efficiency Medal (Territorial) in 1963. He then transferred to Leeds University Officer Training Corps, and served as a qualified Drill Instructor, as well as serving as the Mess Steward, being awarded the Efficiency Medal (Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve) in February 1976, the Second Award Bar in December 1981, and the Third Award Bar in January 1988. He finally retired on 28 April 1988, after 37 years and 246 days’ service, and died in Leeds on 13 March 1989.
