The Duke of Gloucester’s Loyal Volunteer’s Officer’s Shako Plate c. 1807 - 14, an excavated example in stout gauge copper gilt metal displaying a Royal Ducal coronet over the Garter Motto mounted centrally in script capitals ‘DGLV’, no fasteners, the plate retains approximately 60% original fire gilt, it is fractured part way through just below the central mount £100-£160

Raised in the name of the Duke of Gloucester (1743 - 1805) a brother of King George III and commanded by Colonel Richard, Viscount Chetwynd, the Lieut. Colonel was Edward Boodle of the Club ‘Boodles’ who had risen steadily through the social ranks from being a waiter. The Corps was an elitist one containing peers and baronets and based in Westminster.
