John Auld was born in Cramlington, Northumberland, and attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers at Gateshead. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and was killed in action on 1 October 1915. He has no known grave and is buried in Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, France.
