Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1011 Pte. W. Ball, 11th Hussars) some edge bruising, very fine £80-£120
William Ball was born in the Parish of St. James, Westminster. A Shoemaker by occupation, he attested for the 7th Dragoon Guards at Westminster on 21 April 1859, aged 20 years. He transferred to the 11th Hussars in August 1867 and re-engaged to complete 21 years in March 1868. He served in the East Indies for 17 years, 6 months, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal by G.O. 82 of 1878 - his only medallic award. He was discharged at Aldershot on 18 June 1880, and his intended place of residence was stated to be New Brompton, Chatham.
