Last very fine, others about extremely fine and better with original colour (£70-100)

DH 5 on small flan only illustrated. John Jelly (†1813), lawyer, Gay’s place, proprietor of the Walcot Botanic Garden, opened in June 1793 with the help of the apothecary and botanist William Sole (1741-1802); Jelly was declared bankrupt in April 1795 and his property, including the garden, sold by auction (Brooke, CTCJ December 1999, pp.33-5). He was also co-issuer of the Badminton halfpence (Spence Part I, 1241)
