George III, Recovery from Illness, 1789, medals by J. Davies (6), viz. bust right, unsigned (3), revs. lost to britannia’s hope, etc, in copper, 8.26g/5h, in plated brass, 7.97g/5h, in brass, 7.80g/5h, all 29mm (all DH 932; BHM 296; Storer 6183; Hawkins 15); bust right, d below (2), revs. similar, in copper, 7.59g/6h, in brass, 7.52g/6h, both 29mm (both DH 933; BHM 296; Storer 6184; Hawkins 16); bust right, rev. jehovah heard britannia’s prayer, etc, in white metal, 30mm, 6.97g/12h (DH 934; BHM 299; Storer 6180; Hawkins 17); medalet by J. DH 932 brass only illustrated. George III suffered from porphyria in its most vicious form, succumbing to the illness in the autumn of 1788. His condition slowly improved in January 1789 and by the end of February he was back to full health. On 11 March Parliament presented congratulatory addresses to him on his recovery
