Military Medal, G.VI.R. (17643 Sepoy Sardar Khan, 15 Punjab R.), engraved naming, good very fine £350-400

M.M. London Gazette 18 May 1944.

Immediate recommendation 23 March 1944, date of action night of 3 / 4 February 1944, place of action; Arakan. Recommendation states: ‘On the night 3 / 4 February 1944 Sep. Sardar Khan was a member of a sec. detailed as escort to C.R.E. 7th Ind. Div. and engineering party who were doing a recce on the Ledwedst Chaung Apakan. On the way back the party was ambushed by the enemy who set alight hasha for illumination. The CRE and another officer were killed and one officer wounded in addition to many others killed and wounded including one killed and two wounded in Sep. Sardar Khan’s section. The enemy prepared to charge but were engaged by Sep. Sardar Khan with a bren gun, who advanced firing from the hip and cheering. As a result of this action the enemy were driven off, and the bodies of the killed and wounded men successfully evacuated. Throughout this action Sep. Sardar Khan showed extreme coolness and courage under very trying and demoralising circumstances.’
